MITCHELL HIGH SCHOOL
Most high schools hold a freshman orientation before school actually starts. These are helpful not only because you learn your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers, but you also get to meet fellow freshmen.
The work in high school builds on what you learned in middle school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many academic subjects. If you ever find your work too overwhelming, teachers and tutors are available for extra help. While you have more independence as a high school student than you might have had in middle school, there are still many resources to fall back on if you feel the work is too much.

Sophomores
The 10th grade is usually the second year of high school and is referred to as sophomore year. Students at this level are also considered to be developing greater ability for abstract thinking. With your freshman year behind you, you are one step closer to finding a college that fits your needs. In addition to keeping your grades up, you can begin researching prospective schools. Continue meeting with your counselor and involving yourself in outside activities, such as athletics and community service.
Juniors
The 11th grade, or Junior year, is a critical year for high school students who plan to go to college. There are important issues that need to be started, and developed during the junior year. You will need to start studying for the SAT/ACT tests, work on good grades and start participating more in extracurricular events.
Seniors
The 12th grade, or Senior Year, is your best year in high school. You’ve worked hard for the past three years for this grade level. There are many fun and exiting school events, which include senior prom, senior ditch day, and senior photos. During your senior year, try not to get senioritis…remember your grades still count and your admissions to college depends on all four years in high school.

High School Extracurricular Activities:
High school offers many great extracurricular activities, such as clubs, music and theater groups, student government, and sports teams. This is a fantastic time to explore your interests and try new things. These activities may take place before or after school, or during free periods or study halls. Because of this, it helps to sharpen your time management skills.
